Test and Analysis of the Safety and Insertion and Withdraw Force of Electronic Connectors

Ⅰ. How to improve the safety of electronic connectors?

The role of electronic connectors in the equipment is very important, but many customers do not understand its safety, leading to some unexpected accidents. And there are many factors related to electronic connectors, such as external insulation resistance, internal conductivity, etc. Here is this part for everyone's popular science.

The first is the external insulation resistance, that is, the resistance value exhibited by applying a voltage to the insulating part of the electronic connector, so that a leakage current is generated in or on the surface of the insulating part.

Electronic connectors are mainly affected by factors such as insulating materials, temperature, humidity, and contamination. In addition, you should pay attention to the test voltage value of the insulation resistance. Depending on the insulation resistance (MΩ) = voltage (V) applied to the insulator (V) / leakage current (μA), applying different voltages will have different results.

In the test of electronic connectors, the applied voltage generally has three levels of 10V, 100V, and 500V. Another point is to improve the safety of external packaging materials and add environmentally resistant materials to ensure reliable guarantees, so that a good guarantee service can be provided during the transmission process.

The second is the electrical conductivity of the main internal conductor, which is as important as the insulation of the external material. Only by achieving the highest-end in both aspects, can the operation itself be safer, so as to achieve a better effect, especially the advantages of electronic connector products can be fully utilized, so as to promote more effective production.

Ⅱ. Test procedure for insertion and withdraw force of electronic connectors

1. Test purpose:

Describe in detail a standard method for measuring the required insertion and extraction force between electronic connectors, or the required insertion and extraction force between the protective cover and the connector.

2. Preparation before test:

① The test sample consists of a plug and a socket with a contactable end. The sample must match, unless otherwise specified. The sample should be composed of all available hardware including rubber cores, terminals, iron shells, protective covers, screws or guide pieces.

② Auxiliary devices and fixtures used in testing

3. Test method:

① Insertion force test

Place the two matable electronic connectors in the initial position of the mechanical mating, and the readings of the dynamometer and the torque meter are both zero. Fully insert the connector (matching) at a progressive force rate according to the specifications, and record the peak value of the insertion force.

② Withdraw force

Fully withdraw the mating connector at a gradual force rate according to the instructions in the specification, and record the withdraw force.

4. Precautions:

① During the test, the dial of the tension gauge should be placed in the appropriate position of the connector so that the reading pointer is located in the middle of the gauge, so that the operation gauge can be accurate to ±2%.

② Unless it's otherwise stated in the specifications, the samples do not need any lubrication or cleaning.
