Deep Sea Oil and Gas Engineering—Subsea Production System

Sunkye's Oil and Gas interconnectivity solutions are designed to work in high-pressure environment..

What is Subsea Production Systems?

Subsea Production Systems are wells located on the sea floor, as opposed to the wells on the surface. A moveable rig is used to drill the well, and instead of building a production platform for that well, the extracted natural gas and oil are transported to a nearby production platform by riser or undersea pipeline. This approach allows one strategically placed production platform to service many wells over a reasonably large area. Subsea systems are typically used at depths of 2,000 meters or more, and do not have the ability to drill, only to extract and transport. Therefore, it is necessary for all the parts to withstand at least 300PSI.

Developing subsea production systems requires specialized subsea equipment. The deployment of this equipment requires specialized and expensive vessels, which need to be equipped with diving equipment for relatively shallow equipment work, and robotic equipment for deeper water depths.

Subsea installation refers to the installation of subsea equipment and structures in an offshore environment for the subsea production system. This activity is risky, and heavy lifting is avoided as much as possible. Subsea equipment and structures are transmitted to the installation site by installation vessels to achieve this.

Technological advancements in subsea equipment have made deep water and ultradeep water exploration and production possible. In some working environments, the depth of water may be more than 5000 meters, and every part of the equipment faces significant challenges. From a corrosion control perspective, this means a lot of mixed materials, a wide range of operating temperatures, coated and uncoated systems, and many mechanical connections and joints. The challenge is to make all the corrosion control systems compatible. However, this has not been very well accomplished to date, and as a result, many early in situ repairs and anode supplements are required. Additionally, the pressure withstands and air leakage in such a harsh environment is a concern.

Sunkye's high-pressure connectors can work in an environment of 25000 PSI, and glass-to-metal sealing can keep an excellent air leakage function.
