Connectors Are Required To Be Small, Lightweight, and Of Low Profile in Space Application

Sunkye’s R06 Series Nano D Connectors Have Super Shape and Well Performance Can Meet Long Time Space Mission Requirement.

When discussing electronic systems for space missions, it is crucial to consider that from the system's launch until its completion, the requirement is for them to function without failure and without the possibility of repair. This underscores the significance of space technology in developing electronic systems that can deliver long-lasting performance in extreme physical and environmental conditions, presenting a new challenge.

With humanity's curiosity about space expanding beyond Mars and the Moon, exploration efforts are reaching every corner that technology can access. Satellites play a pivotal role in space exploration, but launching them is a complex endeavor. During the launch phase from Earth, all electronic components face significant challenges posed by high levels of shock and vibration. Given that force is a product of mass and acceleration, designers often opt for components that are small, lightweight, and have a low profile, particularly electronic connectors.

Exploration missions typically demand that devices operate for extended periods without draining batteries quickly. Many circuits require very low voltages and minimal current flow to perform their functions. Circuits responsible for transmitting digital images must handle vast amounts of data while maintaining high signal integrity to ensure image quality.

Sunkye's R06 series Nano D connectors offer a combination of low weight and robust performance suitable for space applications, meeting the MIL-DTL-32139 standard. These Nano D connectors are significantly smaller and lighter than standard micro-D connectors by up to four times and previous D-sub footprints by up to eight times, with a pitch of just 0.635mm. They are compatible with various mounting styles, including horizontal SMT, PCB right-angle SMT and thru-hole, straight flange mount, and right-angle PCB mount configurations.
